Unify Digital Web Presence Across Departments

Region

North America

Duration

24 months

01. Background

We partnered with a leading New York university to centralize its siloed legacy websites. Each of them possesses its own structure, branding, and content strategy. This created a fragmented digital ecosystem, redundant development effort, and a disjointed user experience.

For that purpose, the university needed to unify its digital presence, improve usability, and ensure end-to-end compliance. As a result, we adhered to federal accessibility standards, streamlining content management across every department through a single centralized platform.

02. Challenges

First and foremost, it was quite tricky to build a decentralized web architecture across departments. This is because it primarily involves serious operational and compliance pressure.

Inconsistent branding and varied user experiences made it more difficult to maintain a coherent institutional identity. More than that, their existing websites failed to meet federal accessibility and mobile responsiveness standards.

Chances were that if not timely resolved, they might have to face real legal risk. On top of that, outdated content management tools meant even simple page updates required developer involvement.

03. Requirements

  • Unified Digital Platform – Consolidate all departmental sites under one consistent brand framework
  • Accessibility & Compliance – WCAG-compliant, mobile-responsive layouts meeting federal accessibility mandates
  • Efficient Content Management – Intuitive tools enabling teams to publish without developer dependency
  • Modular & Scalable Architecture – Reusable UI components supporting cross-departmental growth

05. Solutions

Matech CO developed a modular design system that unified administrative control and departmental flexibility. Our single cloud-based platform covered everything given requirements from their end.

It includes Drupal Layout Builder, drag-and-drop publishing independence, and eliminates developer involvement. Even more, a Storybook-documented UI component library gave every department a consistent visual framework.

They easily preserve creative flexibility, reducing development time and strengthening brand cohesion across the institution. Besides that, Tailwind CSS ensured responsive, standardized styling across all devices. WCAG-compliant layouts were embedded throughout the platform, bringing all departmental sites into full federal accessibility compliance.

There was no longer any legal risk, and the platform was broadening its inclusivity for every visitor. The scalable architecture supports seamless integration of future features and their upcoming digital needs.
